Tilicho lake is a lake located in the Manang district Nepal, 55 kilometres (34mi) as the cow flies from the citu of Pokhara. It is situated at an altitude of 4,919 meters (16,138 ft) in the Annapurna range of he Himalayas. Another sources lists the altitude of Lake Tilicho as being 4,949 metres (16,237 ft). According to the Nepali Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (2003), no aquatic organism has been recoeded in the lake.

Tilicho Lake is the famous destination of hikes of Annapurna Circuit. The hike takes additional 3-4 days. No camping is required as new lodges have been built between Manang and lake but you can do camping as your wish. The final approach to the lake is done in the day hike from the lodge at Tilicho Base Camp.

Day 1. Kathmandu to Besisahar: Besisahar is 175.8 km far from Kathmandu. You must take a bus from Kathmandu to Besisahar which takes around 5-6 hours’ drive. At that day you must stay at hotel of Besisahar which can cost around $3-$20 for a room per night and food cost around $2-$10 per person.

Day 2. Besisahar to Braga: This way is 95km. First you must take a Jeep from Besisahar (cost almost $15-$25) which takes you to the place name ‘Pisang’ then you must walk or can take local transport from Pisang to Braga which is 14 km. Note. ( Don’t forgot to enjoy the beautiful water fall and a under pass on the way to Pistang from Besisahar) Then you can book a hotel on Braga which cost almost $10-$30 and food cost around $4-$10 per time.

Day 3. Braga to Tilicho Base Camp: On this day you must trek 7 hours from Braga to Tilicho Base Camp. You can stay a night on hotel which cost almost $10-$30 and food cost about $6-$10 per time. Note: Road of this way is difficult and snow fall can occur.

Day 4. Tilicho Base Camp to Tilicho Lake and return up to Base Camp: This way is so difficult and the one of the best day because you will be at Tilicho Lake at day 4. In lake the is no service of food or stay you you should be well prepared for that.

Day 5. Base camp to Village area: In this day you should move from Base Camp to Village area. You can get lots of hotels on village area.

Now, there are lots of option to do like you can stay for some days and visit famous places or you can return Besisahar from Jeep. You can also visit Thorang La Pass and Mustang if you want more trek.. Here is a guide for that:

Things To Remember:

As Tilicho Lake lies on high altitude you should take care of some things like:

  • Always take a bottle of hot water,
  • Use trekking stick and shoes while trekking,
  • Do not trek if can’t handle altitude sickness,
  • Use thick clothes.

Cycling On Tilicho Lake:

If you are good or expert at cycling then you can also do cycling from Manang to Tilicho Lake, but you should be expert on mountain cycling and your cycle must be mountain bike/cycle. In some routs you also need to carry your bicycle so, be well prepared for that also.

Helicopter Tour:
